Abstract
Lateral condyle fracture is one of the commonest injuries encountered in pediatric age group. There are a number of options during surgical management of these fractures; Kirschner-wire (K-wire) is the most commonly used implant for fixation. This prospective observational study was conducted in 100 Bedded Sadar Hospital, Shariatpur and SSKMC & 250 Bedded General Hospital, Gopalgonj from July 2019 to December 2021 over a period of 30 months. A total of 30 patients with fracture of lateral condylar of humerus were enrolled in this study. They were treated with open reduction and internal fixation with K-wires and evaluated radiologically and clinically after 6 months of the surgery. In this study, mean age of the patients was 7.1 ± 1.5 years ranged from 3 to 10 years. Boys were predominant than girls. Boy to girl ratio was 2.75:1.Most common mode of injury was fall while playing at ground at 23 (76.7%) followed by fall from height at 7 (23.3%). fractures were mostly in Milch II (80.0%) and Milch I (20.0%). Affected side of fracture was right limb (30.0%) and left limb (70.0%). Mean time to fracture union as evidenced by X-ray was 4.81 ± 0.49 weeks and mean time of k-wire removal was 5.48 ± 0.58 weeks. According to the criteria of Hardacre, 23 cases (76.7%) had excellent and 7 cases (23.3%) had good outcome. So, open reduction and internal fixation with k-wire is an excellent method of fixing lateral condyle fractures in children with excellent radiological and functional results.

Key Words: Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), K-wire, lateral condyle fractures of humerus.
