Abstract
Blood group antigens are genetically coded and these antigens could be susceptible factors or resistance factors for some diseases. There are many research works that established the relationship between ABO blood group with thyroid diseases and type-2 Diabetes mellitus. Many studies also established the association of thyroid auto-immunity in type 2 DM patients. Sothis study was designed with the aim of thyroid Autoimmunity in type 2 DM patients and determination of the pattern of ABO blood groups in positive thyroid antibodies (Anti-TPO & Anti-Tg) type 2 diabetes patients in our country. It was an observational study. The study populations were Seventy five documented type 2 DM patients with age range (30-70) years were selected consecutively from registered diabetic book at out-patient department of Sylhet Diabetic Hospital. The exclusion criteria of patient selection were previous history of thyroid disease or hepatic disease or renal dysfunction. The selected patient was counseled and sent at Nuclear Medicine and Allied Science Center, Sylhet for the presence of Anti-TPO & Anti-Tg antibodies. These antibodies were measured by RIA kit (Beijing Atom High Techno Co. Ltd, China) and it was found 20% positive Anti-TPO & Anti-Tg in those patients. Then these positive Anti-TPO & Ant-Tg type 2 DM Patients were evaluated further for ABO blood group pattern by Antigen-Antibody agglutination test at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and identified the blood group O(53%), B(27%), A(13%) and AB(7%).
The mean age of cases was 51.918.97 years. This study showed, blood group O relatively in highest percentage and AB blood group in lowest percentage. But there were variations in percentage of Blood group B and Blood group A with others studies. These variations may be due to relatively smaller study population, shorter duration of study period, different geographical distribution and different analytical methods.

Key Words: ABO blood Group, Thyroid Auto Antibodies (Anti-TPO & Anti-Tg), Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
