Abstract
Eclampsia is a multisystem disorder that involves vital organs and failure of these organ may lead to deterioration of maternal condition. Hypoxia and acidosis of foetus resulting in high foetal mortality and morbidity. It is a serious condition which requires urgent medical treatment. Eclampsia may be associated with moderate as well as significant increases in blood pressure. The blood pressure can return to normal after delivery or may persist for a period of time.
Aims & objective of this study to assess the fetomaternal outcome of eclampsia patients in a tertiary level hospital. It was prospective observational study carried out Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in a tertiary level hospital, Sylhet during the period of January 2018 to December 2018.
Total 50 eclamptic patients irrespective of their gestational age admitted were enrolled for this clinical study. Using pre-designed data collection sheet. Data were presented tabulation and analysis by SPSS programme windows version 20. This study shows maximum, 42% of patients belonged to 21-30 years of age group followed by 40% patient who belonged to 20 years and 18% patients were 30 years of age. The average age was 24.88±5.77 years. Majority were unbooked (64%). Most (62%) of the patients were primigravida. On analyzing the presentation of the patients (64%) had severe HTN (systolic/diastolic BP 160/110 mm of Hg). Maximum patients 48% were delivered by caesarean section. Majority maternal outcome were good and 8% need ICU admission. The perinatal mortality was 22 and 40% were APGAR score <_7 and 60% were APGAR score >7. Every obstetric unit should have a well established protocol for coping with eclampsia to avoid delays in the diagnosis and management.
