Abstract
Excessive overlapping of lower anterior teeth by upper anterior teeth (deep bite) can be due to infraocclusion of posterior teeth, supraocclusion of anterior teeth or a combination of the two. Treatment of deep bite usually done by extrusion of molars, intrusion of incisors or combination of both. To evaluate the effectiveness of utility arch wire and reverse curve of spee arch wire in correction of deep bite. 8 linear and 6 angular parameters were recorded from initial lateral cephalograms and post-deep bite correction lateral cephalograms of 13 patients treated by utility arch wire (Group 1) and another 13 patients treated by reverse curve of spee arch wire (Group 2) in deep bite cases. After four months of treatment results were analyzed and findings were recorded. In this study in group 1 no significant skeletal changes were found and not all cephalometric value related to dental changes showed significant correction by utility arch wire. In group 2 no significant changes occur in skeletal pattern but all cephalometric values indicating dental changes were significantly changed. Both arch wires effectively correct deep bite without changing any skeletal pattern. Patients treated with reverse curve of spee arch wire showed more significant dental correction in compare to that of utility wire.

Key Words: Deep bite, Utility arch wire, Reverse curve of spee arch wire
