Abstract
This is a prospective study carried out at NITOR AND NEMCH from July 2014 to September 2017 to evaluate the surgical outcome of thoracolumbar vertebral fractures through posterior approach. Among the 28 cases, 24 cases (86%) were male and 04 cases were female. The age range of patient was from 15-65 years most commonly affected people were farmer 09 (32.14%) fall from height was the commonest cause of injury 19 (71%) most common level of injury was L1,14 cases (50%) pedicle screw and rod used in all cases for short segment reconstruction above and below the involved level. According the frankle grade preoperatively most common grade was C,19 (68.4%) and next common was D,7 (25.2%). Post operatively most was D,16 (57.6%) and next wax E.11 (39.6%) shift of frankle grade 1 was the highest 17 (60.7%) and no shifting is 3 (10.7%) patients Fewer complication were observed among the patients preoperatively and postoperatively According to Denis et al pain scale most commonly 13 (46.4%) cases complain no pain and work scale most commonly 14 (50%) cases were completely well and can perform normal work up to latest follow-up. Mean hospital stay was (24.73=7.92) days. satisfactory result (excellent & good) were in 22 (80%). Fair 4(13.33%) and unsatisfactory (poor) result in 2 (6.67%) cases. The result of the study demonstrates that decompression, stabilization by pedicular screw and rod and posterolateral fusion is an effective method for the treatment of traumatic thoracolumbar spinal injury with incomplete neurological lesion.
