Abstract
A cross sectional study, based on Autopsy results, was conducted in The Department of Forensic Medicine at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2016: all the post mortem cases performed during the study period was analyzed and 125 cases were found organophosphorus poisoning. In the present study. Post mortem reports of 125 cases were collected using a specially designed data sheet and from the inquest report of the police record submitted to the Forensic Department. Out of 125 cases, 51% were males and 49% were females. The majority of the poisoning cases were in the age group 21-30 years (50.40%). This is the socially, economically as well as sexually most active age group and have much impact on national as well at family level. Most of the cases were suicidal in nature (96%) while only 2.4% and 1.6% were accidental and homicidal in nature respectively. The OPC poisoning trend observed over three years (2014-2016) was found stable without much variation. Awareness should be generated among people about the harmful effects of agro-chemicals. Psychological counseling of adolescents and young adults with psycho-social problems is needed to be done.
