Abstract
Aims and objectives: Many studies have reported various patterns of skin diseases in different countries and they differ from country to country and various regions within the country. So far, no such report is available in our country for Sylhet region. To find out the morbidity pattern, this retrospective study was done in this tertiary hospital, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Materials and methods: This retrospective study was carried out in North East Medical College Hospital by reviewing the Departmental records over a period of 6 months starting from January 2011 to June 2011.
Results: Most of the patients suffered from superficial fungal infection (13.27%), next common were Seborrheic Dermatitis (12.29%), Scabies (11.30%) and Contact dermatitis (9.30%). Maximum number of patient attended in the month of May. Most of the patients belonged to the age group 31 40 years (24.09%). Male female ratio were about the same (M: F50.17:49.83)
Conclusion: This study revealed that dermatological disorders are very common in our social background and it cause considerable morbidity among our population causing significant health hazard in our community.
