Abstract
Suicide is a global public health problem that is all too frequently ignored by researchers, and Bangladesh is no exception. This was a retrospective autopsy report-based analysis conducted in the Department of Forensic Medicine of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet, from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 to determine the predisposing factors for suicide. Between the ages of 15 and 30 years, the incidence was highest (60.19%). Females made up 54.23% of the population, while males made up 45.77%. The result demonstrated that married people were more likely to commit suicide (54.24%). The most common form of suicide is discussed in this articlewas hanging (88.08%). Family disharmony (38.81%) was the leading cause of suicide, followed by marital discord (21.39%). The results could help policymakers make better decisions about suicide prevention.Suicide is an under-researched and under-documented public health problem in Bangladesh, with few studies and little literature. The establishment of a national suicide surveillance system is a long-overdue measure.
