Abstract
Spleen is an important organ of immune system as well as circulatory system. It is important to detect presence of accessory spleen prior to splenectomy operation to serve the purpose and this study was aimed to detect spleenic notches and availability of accessory spleen and correlation with different age group, among Bangladeshi people. This study was carried out on 80 autopsied human spleen aged 7 to 85 years. The collected samples were grouped into A (0-15 years), B (16-60 years), and C (>60 years). In group A Accessory spleen are present in 26.66% cases. In group B 25% cases having accessory spleen and 24% cases of accessory spleen is found in group C. Most commonly notches were present in upper border and was single, but in one case there were seven. Notches were absent in upper border in 13% cases. But there was no significant association with existence of accessory spleen and spleenic notches with age.
