Abstract
Dental health is an essential part of our general health and is remarkably attributed to menopause, a normal physiological condition that every women experience after a certain age. This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted with a view to assess the effect of menopause on women’s dental health condition. By simple random sampling method 55 women were selected from Out Patient Department of North East Medical College Dental Unit from June’2019 to August’ 2019. Face to face interview was taken by a semi structured questionnaire for collecting data. Highest numbers of respondents (65.5%) were in the age group of 41-50 years and lowest numbers of subjects (14.5%) were 61-70 years. Most of the percipients (60%) were married and only 1.8% left unmarried. Among the total respondent 98.2% were homemakers whereas 1.8% was job holders. About educational qualification, majority (32.8%) of the participants were completed their secondary level and 30.9% were illiterate. On the other hand monthly family income was found Tk. 10,000-20,000 of 72.8% of respondents and Tk.21,000-30,000 income earned by 5.5% patients. Regarding oral hygiene maintenance, most of them (52.7%) used tooth paste but 10.9% clean their teeth by finger with charcoal. Most of the respondents (65.4%) confessed that they had bad oral habit, where in 83.3% were betel leaf chewer, 16.7% had taken sadapata but none of them was smoker. Study shows 89.1% of the respondent had dental problem and 10.9% had healthy teeth. At the end of the research, it is realized that menopause has a great influence over dental health.
