Abstract
This cross sectional study was conducted in the Gynaecology Outpatient Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, to determine the factors associated with cervical cancer among patients attending for cervical cancer screening programme. A total of 106 patients were interviewed. The mean age of the respondents was 41.8±9.1 years ranging from 21 to 86 years. Highest percentage of the patients was in the age group 35-44 years (45.3%). Data shows that highest percentage of the respondents was illiterate. Half of the respondents had married at the age less than 15 years. The mean age at consummation of marital life was 15.7±3.1 years ranging from 10 to 26 years. More than three fifths 63.2% of the respondents had history of first birth during their adolescence and two fifths (40.6%) had history of pregnancies 4-6 times. Highest percentage of the respondents had complains of lower abdominal pain (22.6%) followed by irregular bleeding (21.7%), post coital bleeding (18.9%), white vaginal discharge (15.1%), painful sexual intercourse (9.4%) & painful menstruation (8.5%) and others were infertile or had burning micturition or post menopausal bleeding. Among the respondents, 28.3% give history of contraceptive use.
