Abstract

This was a cross sectional study focusing on the prevalence of coronary artery disease in people of a part of Sylhet Division and also to determine the procedural outcome by observing the procedural success and complications related to the procedure performed in this newly formed centre. Percutaneous coronary angiography (CAG) was performed in 148 consecutive patients with suggestive coronary artery disease (CAD) during the period of January 2009 to February 2010 The population consisted of 113 (76.35%) male and 35 (23.65%) female Age distribution 6.08% (n-9) belonged to 30-39 years, 17.57% (-26) was 40-49 years. 50% (n=74) 50-59 years & 26.35% (n = 39) age group 60 years respectively Clinically 49 patients (33.10%) had history of myocardial infarction (MI) while 10 (6.76%) had history of unstable angina 75 (50.68%) had stable angina & 2 (1.35%) had non-specific chest pain. Risk factors of CAD showed smoking (n = 104) 70%, DM (n = 89) 60%, hypercholesterolemia (n=81) 55% and HTN (n=74) 50%. We observed positive angiographic lesion, number of vessel(s) involvement. average percentage of stenosis, procedure related complications and outcome. CAG findings showed 30.40% (n = 45) had normal coronary arteries, while 22.97% (n = 34) had single vessel disease (SVD), 29.05% (n=43) had vessel disease (DVD), 16.89% (n = 25) had vessel disease (TVD), diffuse lesions 05 (3.38%). Among SVD. left anterior descending (LAD) stenosis was 17 (50%), right coronary artery (RCA) stenosis 9 (26.89%) & left circumflex (LCX) stenosis was 6 (17.65%). Among DVD, LAD + LCX stenosis was 15 (34.88%), LAD + RCA 16 (37 21%) & RCA + LCX stenosis 11 (25.58%) noted After CAG. 50 (33.78%) patients were advised medical treatment which included normal CAG & diffuse lesion, 75 (50.68%) of SVD and DVD for PTCA & 23 (15.54%) for CABG, especially those with TVD. Procedural success was 100% and no complication was noted.
