Abstract
Fatty liver is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality in type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Carotid intima media thickness reflects index of cardiovascular disease. There is increased prevalence of fatty liver found in type 2 diabetes. The aim of study is to find out the correlation between fatty change in liver and carotid intima media thickness in type 2 diabetic subjects. This cross sectional study was carried out in the department of Radiology and Imaging, BIRDEM (Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorder) Hospital from January 2012 to December 2012. A total of 100 subjects were included in this study. All the selected subjects underwent B mode ultrasonogram of abdomen and B-mode sonographic imaging of the extracranial carotid arteries. Intima-media thickness of carotid artery was recorded on both left & right sides. Significant positive correlation was found between grade of fatty change in the liver and carotid IMT of type 2 diabetes subjects (r=0.925).

Key Words: Fatty liver, Carotid Intima Media Thickness, Type 1 Diabetes, Ultrasonography
