Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of chemical cautery by 20% silver nitrate in small and dry tympanic membrane perforations closure The study was conducted at Otolaryngology and Head-Neck surgery department of North East Medical College Hospital Sylhet, Bangladesh from 2020 to 2022. This is a cross sectional study Sixty-eight patients of either gender, with unilateral, small and dry tympanic membrane perforation were selected. Written, informed consent was taken and hospital ethical committee approval was obtained. Success rates were recorded. Impact of etiology on successful healing was assessed. The procedure was successful in 62 cases (91.2%). Chemical cautery with silver nitrate was an effective means of treating small dry tympanic membrane perforations.
