Abstract
Salivary gland swelling are considered difficult for diagnosis whether its benign or malignant. Due to some Unique features, FNAC is a safe and easy primary diagnostic tool. We have done a restrospective study for FNAC for parotid swelling performed in North East Medical College Hospital, Sylhet during the period from 2021-2023 (36 months). Histopathological correlation was done in 52 cases to test the sensitivity and specificity of FNAC in diagnosis of parotid pathology. We found 30 (57.69%) benign lesions while 22 (42.30%) were malignant tumors. We had 5 (9.6%) false-negative and 7 (13%) false-positive results. As a result, we got sensitivity of 90%, specificity of 89%. we concluded that FNAC is a very useful diagnostic tools for parotid pathology but always need clinical and histopathological correlation.
