Abstract
At this time Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common oral cancer globally, in this subcontinent specially. For OSCC most common causative reason is considered as regular practice of tobacco consumption with or without betel leaf and nut. This study mainly focused to establish smokeless tobacco is one of the most common risk factors for developing OSCC. A retrospective observational study was conducted to establish the association of habitual risk factors especially smokeless tobacco with diagnosed case of OSCC. This study was performed among 144 histopathologically confirmed cases of OSCC. This study comprised of 47% male and 53% female, mostly affected age group was 61-70 years. In oral cavity most common site was buccal mucosa and cheek (39%). Among multiple risk factors betel leaf, nut, zarda, smoking etc are most commonly practiced. This study unfold, among the study population the practice of chewing betel leaf and nut with smokeless tobacco is 82(72%), Uses of other form of smokeless tobacco is 46%. As it’s logical to say that “prevention is better than cure”, so it’s important to discourage the practice of every form of tobacco among common population to reduce the incidence of oral cancer.
