Abstract
This study was designed to assess the outcome of the treatment of fistula-in-ano in a patient group treated and followed up by single Surgeon in the early part of surgical carrier. A retrospective observational study of patients with fistula-in-ano treated with the different technique from January 2012 through December 2014. All patients had fistula arising from cryptoglandular infections and did not get any case of secondary fistula. Recurrence rate, healing time, and morbidities related to the procedure were determined according to standard follow-up protocol. Thirty-six patients (Male, 35 and female, 1) with low (n = 32) and high (n = 4) fistula were included in the study. The median age was 31.5 (range, 21-67) years. The mean duration of complaints in all patients was 8.4 ±11.1 month. All patients underwent surgery and modalities were fistulectomy, fistulotomy, partial fistulectomy and Seton application; as well as intersphincteric ligation of fistula tract (LIFT). Median duration of hospital stay was 4 (range, 2-15) days, median duration of healing was 6 (range, 4-11) weeks and median duration of follow up was 9 (range, 5-18) months.1 (2.8%) case of low fistula and 2 (5.6%) of high fistulae recur at follow-up period. No clinically significant morbidity was noted in any of the 36 patients except transient incontinence to flatus and liquid faeces. Although recurrence rate was negligible, proportionately more common for high fistula but morbidity in terms of permanent anal incontinence was nil.
