Abstract
Accidents, in the present century, represent a major epidemic of non communicable disease often with resultant disability & handicap’. Out of all unnatural deaths accidental death was the commonest variety. The pattern of accidental deaths examined at Dhaka Medical College margue from 1st. January 1989 to 31st. December
1994 and out of 10436 deaths recorded, total number of unnatural death were 9413, out of them 7080 cases (77.22%) were accidental in nature, among them death due to Road traffic accident was highest (90.34%). Besides these two were cases of drowning 2.82% electrocution 2.26% fall from height 0.75%, burn 3.36% & other causes 0.47%.
Accidental deaths more common in male (83.31%) then female (16.69%) & age groups of victims were higher in between 21-40 yrs & declined after 40 yrs.
