Different modes of clinicopathological presentations of PCOS -a one year study

Abstract

Objective: To see the different presentations of PCOS and health awareness about long term complications of PCOS.

Material and method: This study was done at OPD of North East Medical College Hospital from Jan’11 to Dec’11. Study population was 37. Patients were included in this study according to inclusion criteria. After that ultrasonography of ovaries were done with few biochemical tests. All patients were advised for regular check up, weight control for prevention of long term complications.

Result: During study period 2.47% patients were diagnosed as PCOS. Among them 16.2% patients were presented with oligomenorrhoea, 10.8% with secondary infertility, 32.4% with subfertility, 48.6% with acne, 7.3% with hirsutism and 67.6% with overweight and 2.7% patients with obesity. Features of polycystic ovary in ultrasonography was found in 81.08% of patients. Hormone assay showed 70.28% patients had LH: FSH -2-3:1. Hyperprolactinaemia were 24.32%, raised testosterone levels were 67.56% and raised TSH were 51.35%. On biochemical analysis 18.9% patients showed impaired GTT, 10.8% were diabetic, 5.4% had hyperlipidaemia.

Conclusion: If PCOS can be diagnosed, we can aware the patients about their long term complications.
