Abstract
This study was carried out to assess the knowledge about COVID-19 among rural people of Jainpur, Rakhalganj and Baroigram villages of South Surma Upozila, Sylhet district. Respondents (121) were selected purposively and data were collected through face to face interview by using a semi structured questionnaire. Among the respondents, highest proportions were belonged to the 26-33 years age group (28.93%), Muslim (95.04%), female (68.60%), house wife (60.33%) and educated up to secondary level (30.58%). Monthly family income of majority (37.19%) of them was between 10001-20000TK.COVID-19 was known by 119 (98.35%) of respondents, and the majority of respondents (75.64%) believed it was caused by a virus. The majority of respondents (73.95%) were aware that COVD-19 spread by sneezing or coughing, and most of respondents 104 (85.95%) were aware that fever is one of the clinical symptoms of COVD-19.Most (94.96%) of the respondents had idea about prevention of COVID-19. The majority of respondents (79.64%) stated that using a mask could prevent them from developing COVID-19, while the majority of respondents (94.95%) used masks when leaving their home. After shaking hands with someone, the majority of respondents (96.64%) believe that hand washing is vital, and 91.59% wash their hands. Hand washing takes 20 seconds, according to the majority (33.61%) of respondents. COVID-19 vaccination was obtained by 85 (70.25%) of responders, whereas, among 36 (29.75%) respondents, 44.44% had not yet registered. Knowledge regarding COVID-19, most of the respondents (78.55%) acquired it from television.
