Abstract
Gingivitis is the most common form of disease of gingiva. It results in irritation, redness and swelling. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of gingivitis among the patients visiting Dental OPD, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (SOMC) Sylhet. A sample of 500 subjects ware randomly selected from patients visiting dental OPD of SOMC. A brief history of teeth cleaning process was taken and the full mouth gingival examination was performed. Data collection was done by full mouth gingival examination and the gingival index score was done as Loe and Sliness Criteria. Collected data was analyzed by using software SPSS-16. The study shows that prevalence of gingivitis is increased with age and it was more frequent among Male then Female About 52% suffering from mild gingivitis, 41 moderate gingivitis and 7% severe gingivitis.
