Abstract
Suicide is a worldwide public health problem too often neglected by researchers and Bangladesh is not an exception. This study was a retrospective autopsy reports based study conducted to find out the demographic variables and risk factors of suicide in the Department of Forensic Medicine of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal during the study period of 1st January 2016 to 31 st December 2016. Age incidence was highest (48.69%) in between the age of 15-30 years. Sex distribution revealed 52.61% females whereas 47.39% males. The result showed that suicide was more common in married person (50.87%), Hanging was commonest method of suicide (86.53%) found in this study. This study also revealed that familial disharmony (36.9%) was commonest cause of suicide and marital discord (21.30%) was second highest cause of suicide.
