Abstract
In upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGI) procedure, sedation was given to reduce the analgesia, while maintaining the cardio – respiratory function and rapid recovery. In sedation induced endoscopy. benzodiazepines and opoids are frequently used. Recently Propofol induced endoscopy are practicing to reduce the sedative effects with rapid recovery. In this comparative study, most commonly used sedative drugs for short term sedation such as Midazolam + Fentanyl versus Propofol were used to find out haemodynamic stability. The study was conducted at BRB Hospitals Limited, Dhaka, for the period of February 2017 to July 2017. After taking informed written consent 40 patients were enrolled and randomly divided them in two groups consisting 20 in each group, out of them 10 was male and 10 was female. In Midazolam + Fentanyl induced sedation group, blood pressure and pulse rate (haemodynamic stability) were more stable than propofol induced group. In propofol sedated endoscope procedure side effect is more than midazolam and fentanyl. Side effects include haemodynamic effect, respiratory depression, amnesia etc.
